I love single white flowers with a hint of yellow. It reminds me of a fresh breeze of an August evening after a hot day. I found a way to make Calla Lilies using Airheads® candy. I love Calla Lilies because they bloom throughout the year and come in many colors. Shown are a one-tier version and a two-tier stacked version for special occasions. So simple to make, yet sensational.
You Need:
- 2 (8 or 9 inch round cake (any flavor), baked, cooled and refrigerated (see Recipes for ideas)
- 1 batch Wonder Cream Frosting (see recipes)
- 6 White and 4 green Airheads® candy
- Yellow Mike & Ike® candies
- #352 Leaf decorating tip
- Disposable decorating bag
- Spatula
- Level and fill your cooled cakes. Spread White Wonder Cream Frosting on top and sides of cake. Smooth with a straight edge metal spatula.
- Insert the leaf tip into a decorator bag. Snip 1/2 inch of the bag so the tip is halfway through. Add one-cup of white into the bag.
- Using the #352 leaf tip, make small u’s around the top and bottom borders of the cake. Make single long s’s on the sides of the cake. Use the above photo as your guide.
- With white Airheads® candy piece cut in half with a scissors. Microwave pieces for 5 seconds to soften. Press the two pieces together to make a square. Let cool and cut square into two triangle pieces (as shown). Snip two ends of the triangle. Take the two ends and meet together and pinch to make the bottom of the flower.
Place a yellow Mike & Ike® candy in the center.
With green Airheads® candy, cut long leaf shapes. Attach the leaves to the sides of the flowers (as shown). Place the flowers around the cake.
Summer Bloom Two-Tier Cake
Make the above cake, adding a larger cake for the bottom tier. Make more Calla lilies for the bottom, middle and top of the cake. Stack the cakes using sticks in the bottom tier for support.
