When I was young, that was part of what always made me associate her with the red and green. Red is her favourite color and green is her plants. Her creative talent runs through her veins aside from cooking, gardening she knows how to make crochet bed spread and table cloth and straw handbags. My mom was a kind, caring giving person. She always put others first before herself. My mom’s giving nature and kindness has made me the same as her.
She made the most delicious homemade Ensaymadas, Pandasal, Sans Rival, Chiffon cakes and different types of sweet candies. I remember watching her mixing the bread dough up in a huge aluminium bowl. Let it rise for hours, mold it and wait for another couple of hours then bake it. When mom made Sans Rival for the family, she would let me stand on a brown stool beside her so I could watch. And when she makes Chiffon cake I usually love it I wait and wait when she’s done filling the cake pans and I would lick the beaters mmmm mmmm
She is my inspiration...
When I’m in the kitchen, baking I feel her spirit with me and memories come flooding back. I hear things she used to say. She always look happy and relaxed in the kitchen. If a recipe didn’t work out, she didn’t get upset she’d just say “now we have the opportunity to try again” practice makes perfect. I miss my mom, but her legacy lives on in me through my baking.
